Integrated Metro car shed on 435 acres at Thane for Metro Line 4, 4A, 10 & 11
An integrated metro car shed for Metro Lines 4, 4a, 10 and 11 will come up on a 435-
acre plot (174 hectares) at Mogarpada in Thane as also the coastal road. The
estimated cost of the four metro routes is Rs 28,700 crore.
With this allotment, the state government has provided land for car shed for nearly 11
metro routes except 7 and 7A. Metro Line 8 (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International
Airport to Navi Mumbai International Airport) is still on the drawing board.
On Monday, the state urban development department issued a Government
Resolution (GR) allotting the land free of cost to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region
Development Authority (MMRDA) that is executing the projects. Approximately 29
hectares which is under mangroves and nine hectares which has been given to the
BMC have been excluded from the 174 hectares.
The surplus land after the construction of these infrastructure projects will be used for
residential and commercial purpose. The MMRDA is being appointed as special
planning authority to execute the residential and commercial projects, states the GR.
There are 167 farmers who have been granted class II occupancy on this land besides
31 villagers who have encroached on these lands. While eligibility will be fixed by the
district collector, the MMRDA will provide compensation to them including handing out
developed land. The land to be given will be as per CIDCO guidelines. If there are any
tribals residing on the land, requisite permission will be granted by the collector, the
GR stated.
To expedite the construction of metro car shed for Metro lines 4 and 4a, the GR states
the land is to be handed over to the MMRDA without any encumbrances and no further
permissions will be required from the government or collector for any deals. Also, no
unearned income will be recovered from the authority.
