More urban poor eligible for affordable housing now
The Central has doubled the income slab for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U) from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh for housing schemes under the affordable housing in partnership (AHP) projects in MMR.
This will increase the number of people who are eligible to avail of affordable housing through Mhada and Cidco's lottery of PMAY houses in urban areas.
Mhada issued a press note on Monday claiming this increase was effected after theMaharashtra government's request to the Centre. “The enhancement in income slab aims to expand the eligibility and accessibility of affordable housing for individuals
belonging to the EWS category. Also, maximum people in EWS category can avail the benefit of Mhada's housing lottery in MMR,” the agency said.
Meanwhile, Mhada’s Mumbai board released a draft list of applicants participating in the upcoming housing lottery for 4,082 flats in different parts of Mumbai. The draft list includes a total of 1,22,235 applications. Mhada is yet to announce the lottery date and location.
